Ngorongoro / Serengeti After a possible stop at the Olduvaï Gorges, where human fossil fragments dating back approximately two million years were discovered in 1959, we reach the famous natural reserve that is the Serengeti. Its immense plains are strewn with acacia woodland, rivers and ancient, granite rock formations (kopjes) which dominate the plains. Dinner and overnight : Serengeti Sopa Lodge  Serengeti This magnificent game reserve holds one of the largest concentrations of predators, including lions, leopards, hyenas, and cheetahs. At 14,750 km², it is one of biggest and most spectacular parks in Africa, stretching all the way to Lake Victoria. The annual migration of herds of wildebeest and zebra is a breathtaking natural spectacle. Game drive all day. Dinner and overnight : Serengeti Sopa Lodge  Serengeti / Lac Natron Early morning start to observe the predators hunting their prey. Game Drive on the way to Lake Natron. Descent down the escarpment which overhangs lake Natron where we have a splendid panoramic view of the Rift Valley. Walk along the river to the waterfalls to bathe, before a stroll around the edge of the lake which is populated by thousands of flamingos (the biggest population in Tanzania) and pelicans. The day ends as we watch the sunset by the edge of the lake. Dinner and overnight at Campsite Lac Natron / Mont Lengaï The “Mountain of God” (2878m) is a sacred place for the Maasai. The sense of its deity can be felt at the summit, as one looks down at the two craters. One of the craters is still active and last erupted in 1983. Possibility of a trek accompanied by Maasaï warriors. Dinner and overnight at Campsite Mont Lengaï / Arusha We observe the wildlife in the morning before leaving this magnificent place. Return to Arusha at the end of the day (optional visit to Engaruka, a ruined city situated at the foot of the Rift Valley escarpment).
